Compstort: five compressor bands with VU meters and faders, and a master section

Multiband compressor

Compstort

Five-band compression with its own saturation on every band, from gentle tube warmth to a torn speaker.

$8$15launch price

Mac · Audio Unit and VST3 · Apple Silicon and Intel · macOS 11 or later. Also in the All plug-ins bundle ($40).

Control and character, band by band

Compstort splits your sound into five bands with phase-aligned crossovers that sum flat, so nothing changes until you want it to. Each band has its own compressor, its own saturation and its own makeup gain, with a VU meter showing the gain reduction.

Choose a different saturation for each band: transistor, tube, tape, clip or torn speaker. Tighten the lows with tape, add tube bite to the mids, and leave the top clean, all in one plug-in. The Mix fader blends in the dry signal for parallel compression.

What's inside

Five bands

Four movable crossovers from 20 Hz to 16 kHz. Phase-aligned, so the bands sum back flat.

A compressor per band

Threshold, ratio up to 20:1, attack, release and makeup on every band, each with its own in/bypass switch.

Five saturation styles

Transistor, tube, tape, clip and torn speaker, chosen separately for each band.

VU metering

A gain-reduction VU on every band and a VU on the master output.

Parallel mix

Blend the processed and dry signals with the master Mix fader, perfectly in phase.

Quality switch

HQ runs the engine at 8x oversampling for the cleanest saturation, or only when you bounce.
